School of Sports Science and Engineering developed from the Sports Teaching and Research Group established in 1952, and was renamed as the School of Sports Science and Engineering in May 2008. It is the only professional college in China that combines sports science and engineering. There are Sports Training Department, Sports Economics Theory Research Institute, Health Science and Engineering Research Institute, Sports Materials Research Institute, PE Teaching Center, Education Center for Graduate Programs, Sports Competition and Training Center, Experimental Teaching Center, and Sports Facilities Management Center. School of Sports Science and Engineering offers majors such as Bachelor's degree in Sports Training, Master's degree in Sports Humanities and Sociology (focusing on Sports and Health Management) and Athletic Taining, PhD in Applied Economics (focusing on Sports Industry), as well as PhD and Master's degrees in Sports Materials.

The school has outstanding achievements in physical education teaching, campus sports activities, extracurricular training, discipline development, and joint cooperation among industrial organizations, teaching and research. After years of practical exploration, a distinctive high-level competitive talent training system has been established. While the cultural learning level of athletes and college students continues to improve, the five sports teams of table tennis, basketball, athletics, tennis, and martial arts have achieved excellent results in domestic and international competitions. The university table tennis club has been competing in the table tennis super league for nearly 30 years. In the 2023 World University Games, our school is responsible for organizing the Chinese table tennis team, which won all the gold medals in 7 events, while also winning 3 silver medals and 3 bronze medals. At the first National Student (Youth) Games, our students represented Shanghai and won 4 gold medals and 3 silver medals in table tennis. The school has long become a national demonstration unit for the integration of sports and education, not only producing world-class athletes such as Gao Jun, Wang Yidi, and so on, but also cultivating batches of graduates with outstanding athletic talents, solid academic knowledge, and excellent comprehensive qualities.

Starting from 2024, we take in around 108 undergraduate students majoring in sports training, including table tennis, basketball, tennis, track and field, aerobics and other sports. We will also jointly train shooting, archery, and fencing athletes with the Shanghai Shooting and Archery Sports Center and the Shanghai Cycling and Fencing Sports Center.
