The Research Institute of Sports Economics at East China University of Science and Technology was established in 2002 as the university's core research institution dedicated to sports economics, sports industry operations, and management. Leveraging the interdisciplinary strengths of sports science and economics, the Institute has assembled a high-calibre research team led by professor Yue WANG. Team members specialise in cutting-edge areas of the sports industry, establishing a tripartite development framework integrating ‘research innovation, talent cultivation, and industry-academia-research collaboration’.
The Research Institute of Sports Economics possesses formidable research capabilities. Since its establishment, it has undertaken over one hundred national, provincial, and ministerial-level projects, including key projects under the National Social Science Fund, general projects under the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and major policy advisory research projects commissioned by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government Development Research Centre. Its research outcomes are closely aligned with industry demands and policy directions.
As a vital platform supporting the master's programme in Sports Humanities and Sociology and the doctoral programme in Economics with a specialisation in the sports industry, the institute integrates high-calibre faculty and research resources. It collaborates with industry-leading enterprises to establish industry-academia-research practice bases. This initiative consistently supplies government sports management departments, higher education institutions, sports research organisations, sports enterprises, and related industrial management bodies with versatile sports professionals who possess specialised expertise, cross-disciplinary thinking, and practical capabilities.
