From 14th to 23rd August, the 28th National University Tennis Championships (Final Tournament) were grandly held in Jingshan, Hubei. This event attracted 688 student athletes from 91 universities nationwide, standing as the premier gathering in China's university tennis sphere. Our university's tennis team, led by Coach Jinyan XU, demonstrated remarkable tenacity and exceptional competitive prowess throughout the tournament. The school was awarded the ‘Sportsmanship Award’ in recognition of the outstanding performance and exemplary sporting conduct demonstrated by all participating members on the field.


In the men's team event of division D (Super Division), Kehang QI and Dongbo XIAO (the Class of 2024 Sports Training programme), made their national championship debut representing the university for the first time. Facing formidable opponents, they remained undaunted. Drawing upon the strength honed through rigorous daily training and unwavering perseverance, they delivered a steady performance throughout the competition. Ultimately, they secured an outstanding fifth place in the Super Group (Grade 1, Elite Division) team event, bringing honour to the school.

In the individual events, Mr Qi Kehang of the Men's Division D (Super Division) advanced through the singles competition with remarkable skill and composure, ultimately securing ninth place. His outstanding performance also earned him the individual ‘Fair Play Award’.

Equally impressive was Ruohan ZHU, grade 2023 high-level athlete,who competed solo in the women's high-level singles event. Throughout the tournament, Ruohan fully leveraged her competitive technical advantage, finally secured ninth place in the singles event – her best individual result to date. This honour represents the culmination of her dedicated training since joining the university.

The outstanding achievements attained at the 28th National University Tennis Championships (Final Tournament) represent not only the individual dedication of participating students but also a powerful demonstration of ECUST’s sporting education outcomes. We look forward to our athletes achieving further distinction in future competitions, continuing to write glorious chapters for ECUST.
